2011 is now upon us. We want to consolidate following a very busy and formative 2010 for Unlock the Past (UTP). In many ways we were pioneering with a number of new and innovative ventures. We have gained more experience, new skills, knowledge etc. to make 2011 better again.

Here are the results of our 10th Unlock the Past poll - What online social media sites do you use? 101 people voted casting a total of 211 votes. Facebook was clearly the most popular.

World Vital Records – subscriptions

This is the first of our blogs on World Vital Records Australasia. These will include announcements of major content additions and site developments as well as tips and advice to get the most out of the site. World Vital Records Australasia is now up for subscription and access to 50 million records for Australasia and over 1 billion world wide. However a little more fine tuning is being done before it is widely announced, hopefully in a few days.

Society membership poll results

Here are the results of our first Unlock the Past poll. 172 votes were cast by 116 people, a good number, given this was an early poll on a site that has just started.

More than just an events resource

We introduced Unlock the Past in our previous post, writing mainly about our foundation as an events resource. But Unlock the Past will be much more than this. We plan to develop the web site as a significant history and genealogy resource and gateway. Much of our focus is on reaching people in the traditional ways such as events and publishing. But we want to tap into new technologies to add much more value and to reach those who can’t get to events. The aim is also reach a wider, younger audience generally.
