The Family History Association of North Queensland Inc. (FHANQ) founded in 1980 is a not for profit organisation.

The objects of the Association are to foster and promote the study, practice and preservation of family and local history and allied subjects.

FHANQ is run entirely by volunteers who provide support to the general public and Association members attending the Library. They also gather and transcribe early records relating to the special North Queensland Collection.

Projects

North Queensland Collection Database. A database index of all surnames/forenames originating in the collection material. It is ongoing; currently 900,000 individual entries for 52,000 surnames or derivatives. The collection documents historical development of an area arbitrarily defined as Queensland shires straddling the Tropic of Capricorn 23.5°S and from their borders all the shires north of Cape York and west to the Northern Territory border. The City of Rockhampton is excluded.
