RELATIVELY SPEAKING UK Research
RELATIVELY SPEAKING UK GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH SERVICES
I specialised in social history in my degree from Sussex University, followed by a PGCE teaching qualification from Leeds University. I taught History in several local secondary schools in Derbyshire. Whilst at home bringing up my two daughters, I took a course in Genealogy and set up in business.
Since 1980 I have carried out research for well over 1000 clients worldwide. My work has ranged from simple "family trees" through to detailed and comprehensive family histories - weaving the stories of their ancestors' lives into the historical context of local, national and international events. I investigate house histories, photograph locations relevant to a family's history and organise and lead guided visits in Derbyshire. I offer Gift Packages for that special family occasion or anniversary (at least 3 months notice required). It's the picture you can build of their lives - despair and triumphs - that I really enjoy sharing with clients.
I am the Derbyshire Agent for leading national research companies in the UK and the USA. I also carry out research for Australia based Anzestry and Customised Heritage Tours. In 2001 I researched and produced a guide to genealogical websites for use in Government Online Centres. I have lectured and given talks to local groups on original documentary sources for genealogy and local history studies. I am experienced in the reading of handwriting styles back to circa 1500.
