We usually imagine colonial women indoors — as wives and mothers, domestic servants or sometimes prostitutes. But, in Minding Her Own Business, Catherine Bishop sets colonial businesswomen firmly out in the open.

Yet many of Sydney’s early businesswomen were married, meaning that under the law, their businesses belonged to their husbands. Some of those husbands were supportive and productive, and others were intemperate, insolvent and incompetent.

Join Catherine Bishop to discover how the husbands of these early entrepreneurs affected their wives’ businesses. Were they hapless, hopeless or helpful?

FREE – Bookings are essential.
