To be held at Meeting Room 5, Nerang Bicentennial Community Centre. A general information session on Unlock the Past and presentations from 1:00pm to 4:00pm by guest speakers Shauna Hicks and Rosemary Kopittke.

Shauna's topic for the afternoon:

  • Skeletons in the Family - Convicts, Prison and Asylum Records This talk looks at records useful for finding 'skeletons' in the family. A review of available sources on convicts, prison records and asylum records available in Australia allows researchers to  follow up and hopefully find their missing ancestors.

and for Rosemary:

  • Australian Government, Police and Education Gazettes - Unlocking a Major Untapped Resource (with a brief look at Find My Past Australasia) - Examine the hidden material in Australian Government, Police and Education gazettes - mostly we consider them to be irrelevant and uninteresting but that is definitely not the case. The gazettes contain information about people we would never find in other records.

Bookings via email or by ringing the Gold Coast FHS during their library opening hours on (07) 5582 8855. Afternoon tea will be provided - tea, coffee, biscuits and cake.

All those attending will receive a discount voucher pack and there will be lucky door prizes as well from Gould Genealogy & History, FindMyPast and other Unlock the Past sponsors.
