Our Military Heroes
The Lilydale & District Historical Society has organised a special cemetery tour to commemorate ANZAC Day. The new cemetery tour: Our Military Heroes is on Sunday, April 17 from 1pm. Led by Sandy Ross, the tour traces the lives of local people who fought in various conflicts including the War of Independence, in India, the Boer War and World War I. The people include Jessie Vasey, Nellie Melba, Major William Scurry whose invention on Gallipoli saved thousands of lives; Jack Maffra Boer War veteran and Ralph Goode’s WWI diaries.
