Te amorangi ki mua, te hāpai o ki muri (The leader at the front and the workers behind the scenes) with Geraldine Warren - Family History Lunchtime Series
The mana and kaha of the 28th Maori Battalion endures over 60 years after the cessation of WWII. This session will look at some of the many ways iwi and hapū negotiate and construct their collective memories of recruitment, fundraising, war and loss in dining rooms on marae, town halls and on memorials. It will also consider the influence the 28th Maori Battalion had on Māori creativity in songs, stories, publications, plays and film, up to the present; and touch on the legacy in New Zealand culture and institutions, post war.
