Learn how to get your ancestors' names in print with Cassie Mercer, editor of Inside History magazine.

Hear about why it's so important to write about your family and local history, how to construct an article, how to choose an "angle" for the story, what editors look for, how to pitch to editors, and avenues to tell your stories, including blogs, newsletters, newspapers and magazines.

Cassie will also provide examples of good story structure and pitches, and further resources to read.

Speaker bio

Cassie Mercer is the editor of Inside History, an Australian and New Zealand family history magazine launched in 2010 for people passionate about the past. Cassie has worked in both book and magazine publishing since 1999, for companies such as ACP, Pacific Magazines and UNSW Press in Sydney, and the National Magazine Company and IPC Media in London.

Cassie speaks on a range of topics relating to family history, including how new technology such as tablet devices and apps can help your research, early Irish convict arrivals, and writing family history for magazines and newspapers. The genealogy bug hit her when she discovered her 5 x great grandfather was a highwayman in Dublin in the 1790s.
